‘Surprising, challenging, transgressive and exciting.' THE GUARDIAN

The Summit workshop programme, led by artists and activists, will help you develop the tactics, ideas, knowledge, confidence and skills to co-create lo-fi collective actions across the streets of Bristol and the place you live.

A workshop for Arts Workers. What could be the role of dance and art in bringing into being, a different world? A world that does not own the Earth?

Rita Marcalo (Instant Dissidence) has been practicing a new way of dancing: Dancing As If Trying Not to Own the Earth. She says she is still training in it. She feels she is not fully competent yet, but in this workshop she is ready to share it with you!

“What do you know about the climate emergency? How are you responding to what you know both personally, and as an artist, arts worker, producer, programmer, educator, funder? Join me for an exploration of these ideas, share this new ‘dance’ that I am practicing and then, if you like it, I will leave you to practice it, grow it and develop it in any way you wish, as a localised artist community.” Rita Marcalo

This event takes place on Day 1 & Day 2 of the In Between Time Summit. This workshop is included in the 1-Day Ticket or 3-Day Summit Pass OR can be booked separately.

Instant Dissidence is an Ireland-based company directed by Rita Marcalo, the creative force behind ‘Dancing With Strangers’. Through Instant Dissidence, Rita brings people together inventing unusual art experiences and means by which to solve creative problems. Instant Dissidence is also a socially-engaged and ecologically-engaged company exploring the role that dance/choreography can play as a social engine.
