Saturday 17 October 2026, 5–8.30pm
Knightstone Causeway, Marine Lake, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 2AD
Free entry | Suggested donation £4 | No booking required
We Are Warriors takes place outdoors on Knightstone Causeway, beside Marine Lake. The installation is experienced in the open air, so please come prepared for coastal weather and wear warm, weather-appropriate clothing and suitable footwear.
Getting here
Knightstone Causeway is on the seafront at Marine Lake, towards the north end of Weston
Bay.
By train
Weston-super-Mare railway station is in the town centre. From the station, you can walk towards the seafront and continue north along the promenade towards Marine Lake and Knightstone Causeway.
A new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing at Hildesheim Bridge is due to open in mid-October 2026, providing a safer route between the railway station, town centre and surrounding areas. Please check local signage when you visit, as works may still be taking place around the event dates.
By car
There is limited parking on Knightstone Causeway itself, including 2 Blue Badge spaces. Nearby Melrose Car Park has 230 spaces, including 10 Blue Badge spaces. Marine Parade
also has a large seafront car park with 15 Blue Badge spaces.
Parking charges apply. Please allow plenty of time to park, particularly for the Friday evening event.
By bus
Weston-super-Mare is served by local bus services connecting the town centre, railway station and seafront.
Is We Are Warriors accessible?
Marine Lake has undergone extensive improvement work during 2025–26, including repairs and resurfacing to the lower walkway, improvements to steps and ramps, upgraded handrails and improved signage.
The Causeway is a hard-surfaced outdoor route. However, the event takes place in a coastal environment and conditions can be affected by weather and tides. Visit Weston describes the Causeway as accessible to walk across according to the tides.
There is an accessible toilet at Marine Lake, close to the RNLI shop. It can be accessed using a RADAR key or with a small admission charge.
If you have particular access requirements or would like to talk to us about your visit before you come, please contact us.
If you have questions about access, please get in touch — we’re happy to help you plan
your visit.
What should I expect?
Outdoors by the sea
This is an outdoor installation beside the sea. It may be cold, windy or wet, even if conditions are comfortable elsewhere in Weston.
Please bring:
– warm, weather-appropriate clothing
– suitable footwear for an outdoor route
– waterproofs if rain is forecast
The Causeway and Marine Lake are affected by the tide, so conditions can change during the evening.
Sound and darkness
We Are Warriors is an immersive sound and light installation. You will hear a composition of women’s voices, including roars, sighs and lullabies.
The work takes place in darkness, with sunset around 6.15pm. If you are sensitive to darkness or immersive sound, please take this into account when planning your visit.
How long does it take?
You can spend as long as you like with the installation during the 5–8.30pm presentation. You are welcome to arrive and leave at any point during the evening.
On Friday, there is also a Develop Your Roar workshop, led by Breathing Fire Black Womens Playback Theatre Company from 4.30-6.30pm, including a ‘live roar’ by workshop participants at 6pm.
Weather and tides
We Are Warriors is designed to take place outdoors, but very poor weather or conditions may affect the presentation.
The Causeway is a tidal environment and conditions can change quickly. If there are significant changes to the event because of weather or tides, we will update the website and our social media channels.
